April 30, 1993: A Day That Will Live in Tennis Infamy

 

It's been more than three decades since a crazed man stabbed Monica Seles on a changeover during a quarterfinal match against Magdalena Maleeva at the Citizen Cup in Hamburg, Germany, and it's still hard to believe it happened. I'm not sure if I've deliberately avoided it or if this footage only became available in recent years. But here it is if you care to watch. On this day, 32 years ago Monica Seles was stabbed by deranged Steffi Graf fan because she took over #1 spot from Graf and wanted to injure Seles "so much that she couldn't afford to play tennis for a long time," pic.twitter.com/YIBrdiDii5
