David Sedaris on the real issue with rebranding LGBT people as "queer"

"It no longer matters what you are in practice, just how you identify."

My friend Greg's joke about the whole thing might sum it up best:

I blame all of this on Rachel Dolezal. She really broke the glass ceiling of what one can identify as. 

To our (much-appreciated and much-needed) allies who are doing this, perhaps out of solidarity: I know you mean well, but please don't. Just as Dolezal may have been doing work to help black people, it's still patently offensive to co-opt an identity that you haven't lived.
