NYP: Cricket player sentenced to five years for sickening rape contest

A cricket player who raped a woman as part of a sick contest with a British teammate to see who could sleep with the most people was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday.
UK Judge Jim Tindal slammed 23-year-old Alex Hepburn for “trivializing” the attack and believing he’s “God’s gift to women” at the sentencing hearing, according to the Guardian.
“You and [teammate] Joe Clarke had agreed to a pathetic, sexist game to collect as many sexual encounters as possible. You probably thought it was laddish behavior at the time. In truth, it was foul sexism,” Tindal fumed in Hereford Crown Court.
“It demeaned women and trivialized rape – a word you personally threw around lightly. Only now do you realize how serious rape is.”
The judge added, “You thought you were God’s gift to women. You did see her at that moment as a piece of meat, not a woman entitled to respect. You scarred both your lives forever.”
During the trial, the victim said she met Clark, Hepburn’s British teammate, at a club the night of the attack in April 2017 and had consensual sex with him.
But Hepburn — an Australian-born all-rounder who played for Worcestershire County Cricket — later slipped into his teammate’s dark bedroom and raped her while Clarke was in the bathroom, according to the paper.
The woman thought it was Clark having sex with her. Then afterward, Hepburn said something to her — in his Australian accent — and the woman realized he wasn’t Clarke and ran sobbing into the street.
On Tuesday, she called the rape “evil” and “heinous,” saying she now suffers from post-traumatic stress.
“I mourn who I used to be. I can’t remember the last time I went anywhere without creating mental escape plans, just in case,” the woman said in court.
She said she is now undergoing therapy and was forced to move back in with her parents.
A WhatsApp message history showed Hepburn had sex with 60 women during the so-called sex “stat game,” according to the paper.
Hepburn was found guilty of oral rape earlier this month. (Via NYP)
