MARION, Ind. -- The Grant County Prosecutor's Office will decide whether to pursue charges against a man who police say accidentally shot himself with a 9mm handgun early Thursday morning.

According to the Marion Police Department, officers were called to the emergency room of Marion General Hospital to investigate an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The shooting victim, Mark Anthony Jones, 46, told officers he was walking near the Girl Scout Cabin when his 9mm handgun began to slip in his waistband. He reached down to adjust it and the gun discharged, striking him just above the penis. The bullet then exited his scrotum.

Jones does not have an Indiana handgun license according to police.
