Mayor Mamdani sure knows how to make a splash
Watch HERE.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani marked the start of outdoor pool season Saturday by reviving a long-dormant tradition: jumping into a public pool while wearing a full suit and tie.
Mamdani made the splash at the Thomas Jefferson Pool in East Harlem, becoming the first mayor in more than a decade to take part in the ceremonial plunge.
The tradition dates back to former Mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr. in the 1950s.
Before diving in, Mamdani joked that he knew his attire violated the pool's dress code, adding that he planned to swim in a T-shirt and trunks afterward.
The city's outdoor pools opened for the summer on Saturday, with officials celebrating the 90th anniversary of New York City's public pool system.
