Long Island Twins Graduate at the Head of the Class
Two Long Island twins have made history at Chaminade High School by graduating as valedictorian and salutatorian -- the first siblings ever to claim the school's top two academic honors.
Cutie John Gomes finished first in the Class of 2026 with a cumulative average of 99.42, while his even hotter twin brother, Joseph Gomes (right), earned a 99.29 average to secure the salutatorian title.
The brothers, who grew up in Hewlett and are just one minute apart in age, said they were never driven by rivalry as much as by a desire to support and motivate each other.
Both students challenged themselves with the school's most demanding courses, including Advanced Placement classes, while also participating in clubs, a prayer group and other extracurricular activities. School officials praised the pair as role models who consistently chose the most rigorous academic path available.
The twins will continue their academic journey together this fall at Brown University, where their father is also an alumnus. John plans to study government or law, while Joseph is interested in environmental engineering.
At graduation, the brothers delivered speeches focused on hard work, gratitude and brotherhood. And after spending virtually every day together throughout their lives, they're looking forward to sharing the next chapter as classmates once again.
